An 11-year-old from Kinver has been crowned the champion of England after skiing to victory at the country's biggest week of Alpine racing.

Hattie Taylor, a student at Wolverhampton Girls High, excelled on the slopes of Bormio 2000, Italy during the All England Children's Championships last week.

The championships are the premier Alpine event hosted by Snowsport England.

It attracts a range of participants, including some of the most skilled skiers from the UK, other European countries, as well as international skiers.

Competitors range from children as young as eight to seasoned athletes.

During the six-day event, Hattie competed in three skiing disciplines: Giant Slalom, Slalom, and parallel Slalom.

She had an impressive start in on the slopes, where she seized victory with a 1.87 second lead above her competitors.

The win began her journey to claiming the overall national title, making her the reigning English Alpine Champion in the girls' U12 category.

Hattie, who began skiing at the tender age of three, maintains a rigorous schedule of training twice weekly at her nearest slope for Telford Ski Team, along with Alpine training with her academy Team Evolution in Austria.

She was supported by Roseville Contracts Ltd., Cannock CID, EPD Insulation and Resilliant Group towards her Alpine training last season.

Craig Taylor, Hattie's father and senior operational manager at Roseville Contracts, explained that the family makes a multitude of sacrifices to help Hattie pursue her dream.

Training leans heavily on their financial resources, with no backing from Snowsports England or other charities.

As Hattie enters her first year of U14's while still only being 11, her next target is to gain a place on the GB Children's team within the next two years.

Hattie is on the lookout for sponsorship, and can be contacted via her Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/marnie_hattie.ski).
